STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: VALENY ANDRADE
Junior CTE Student
Westminster High School
Valeny is a dedicated student at Westy who is very active in CTE including both construction engineering and aviation pathways. In fact, thanks in part to WPS’s Competency Based System (CBS), Valeny has been able to accelerate her school experience and plans to graduate this spring as a Junior. She is ready to embark in the world and continue her engineering passion with CU Denver this fall where she will study construction engineering and management.
“My family owns a construction company,” explains Valeny. “That’s why I want to go to college and study construction. I began helping out the family business by doing paperwork. And I loved it.”
When asked about her appreciation of WPS, she proclaims, “WPS brings a wider range of education to students with more perspectives on the outside world, not just school. I really like how my overall education in WPS has created opportunities that will benefit me and other students in wonderful ways.”
She knows full well that she will be entering the male-dominated fields of construction and engineering. “More women need to be in these fields. It is a wide industry with lots of opportunities…always jobs in construction for men and women both.”
