A new art gallery has popped up on the 2nd floor mezzanine of Westminster High School. This exhibit features the work of 11 International Baccalaureate Visual Arts students for their Year 2 thesis project and is on display through April 24th.
Many of the pieces in this gallery are interactive and viewers are encouraged to touch and explore each one. Visitors will encounter butterflies landing on a canvas, clothes to flip through, clay that they can mold, and even a booklet that they can take home.
The IB students used materials like fabric, wood, and clay to explore topics such as belonging, Artificial Intelligence, mental health, the connection between music and emotions, irony, and reflection through self-portraiture.
Artist Statements explain the meaning and motivation behind each body of work, citing the influence of artists of past and present including Salvador Dalí, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, and Bob Ross.
Be sure to stop by and view the pieces while they’re up!
